Dr. Sulaiman Akorede POPOOLA was born at Osogbo, Osun State, Nigeria in November 10, 1955.  He started his educational pursuit by enrolling for a Grade II Arabic Certificate with the Arabic and Islamic Advanced School, Omupo, Ilorin, Kwara State in 1974-1979.  He later enrolled at the University of Ibadan for Certificate in Arabic and Islamic Studies (CAIS) in 1980-1981.  Thereafter, he gained admission for his undergraduate programme at the University of Ibadan in 1983-1986 and obtained B.A. (Hons) in Islamic Studies.  He later moved to the University of Ilorin to obtain Post Graduate Diploma in Education (PGDE) in 1989-1991.  He obtained Masters of Arts in Qur’anic Science and Water Preservation at the University of Ilorin in 1991-1995.  He obtained Ph.D in Islamic Civilization/Environmental Preservation at the Olabisi Onabanjo University (OOU), Ago-Iwoye in October 2004 – October 2010.  His areas of specialization are Islamic Civilization, Islamic Environmental Studies/Islamic Law.

Dr. Popoola was employed into the services of the Michael Otedola College of Primary Education (MOCPED), Noforija-Epe, Lagos State, on August 6, 1997.  He rose through the ranks to become a Chief Lecturer in the School of Arts and Social Sciences.  His administrative and academic experiences include, amongst others, Chairman, Departmental Examination Committee, 1997-2005; Chairman, School of Arts Social Welfare Committee, 1997-2005; Accreditation Team Member, National Commission for Colleges of Education (NCCE), Abuja, December 6-9, 2006; 2007 and 2010. External Examiner/Moderator, Department of Islamic Studies, Adeniran Ogunsanya College of Education, Ijanikin, Lagos, 2007 till 2011; External Examiner/Moderator, Department of Islamic Studies, Federal College of Education, Abeokuta, 2008 till Date; Editorial Board member, Journal of Educational Practice in Nigeria, 1999-2011; Accreditation Team member, National Commission for Colleges of Education (NCCE), Abuja, September 16-19, 2007; External Teaching Practice Moderator for Tai Solarin College of Education, Omu-Ijebu, Ogun State, 2010-2012; Chairman, College Boarding Committee, 2007-2011; Chairman, Editorial Board, Journal of the School of Arts and Social Sciences, 2007-2011; Member, College Academic Board, 1997 till Date; the Head of the Department of Islamic Studies in 1997 – 2005; Dean, School of Arts and Social Sciences, 2005 -2009, Director, Directorate of Degree Programme, Ekiti State University, affiliated with MOCPED, Noforija-Epe, 2012 –2014.  He became the Deputy Provost in 2014 and was appointed by the Governing Council as the Acting Provost of Michael Otedola College of Primary Education (MOCPED) in April 2017 till date.

He has published eight (8) textbooks to his credit.  He has also published in twenty-three (23) national and international academic journals.  He has attended fourty-eight (48) local and international workshops, seminars and conferences respectively.
